This week, the fifth graders began exploring fractions in math class. We started our unit by discussing what fractions represent and comparing different length blocks to represent parts of a whole. We learned about unit fractions, equivalent fractions, and how to put fractions into simplest form. For some practice today, we played equivalent fractions bingo and equivalent fractions spoons (based on the “spoons” card game).
Coming up next, we will discuss improper fractions and mixed numbers. We will also be converting between fractions, decimals, and percentages.
