Week of 1/5-1/6

Here’s what we’ve been up to on this super short 1st school week of 2023!

Writing: Starting a new unit on poetry!  We’re discussing the differences between poetry and prose.

Grammar/Spelling: Reviewing all the parts of speech.  We completed some cumulative activities including a word search and some games of Blooket.

Math: We played Mrs. Verney’s version of Jeopardy to review all the material we covered in the first half of the school year.  Next week we start a unit on decimals!

Reading: We are starting back up with our reading groups.

Science: We answered some questions about electrical insulators and conductors.  What does grounding mean?  What is lightning?  How does a lightbulb work?  What is resistance and how is it measured?

Social Studies: We’re wrapping up discussing Columbus and the Columbian exchange.  We also used some primary sources from Columbus’s time to evaluate the idea that Columbus died still thinking that he had reached Asia.
