Produce Batteries

Today, the students used an assortment of fruits/vegetables and metal objects to make an electric current.  Using their knowledge of how batteries produce electric current, they inserted two metal objects (coins, paperclips, staples) into a fruit or vegetable and observed (using a multimeter) how many volts were produced. Results varied as different pieces of produce were combined with different metal objects.  From what I overheard, the apple produced the most volts today!  After a number of tests, students made a summary of their results and evaluated their initial hypothesis.
