Poetry and a Snowman

Today, we read a poem entitled “Where I’m From.”  The students analyzed the poem, paying special attention to the imagery the author used to paint a picture of herself and her childhood.  The 5th graders then began to brainstorm things that are important to their sense of self, their families, and their childhood.  Students are encouraged to talk to their families about the project and continue to brainstorm over the weekend.  On Monday, we will bring these ideas back to school and write our own “Where I’m From” poems.
