100th Day of School

In celebration of the 100th Day of School on Friday, the fifth graders participated in a few activities that celebrated the concept of 100.  In math, we learned about the concept of percent.  We learned about how to convert between decimals, fractions, and percents.  We also discussed real-world problems that involve percents.  We found what percentage of our class had a cat, and used that information to estimate how many students in our school and in other communities had cats.

In language arts, fifth graders engaged with the challenge of writing down 100 nouns, 100 verbs, 100 adjectives, 100 adverbs, and 100 conjunctions and prepositions.  While finding100 nouns and 100 verbs was easy, thinking of 100 adverbs proved to be quite challenging and we’re still working on the 100 conjunctions and prepositions!  We’ll keep adding to our lists as we come up with more.
