Week of 2/27-5/3

This week we will be preparing for Student Led Conferences.  Students are already diligently working on a Slides presentation to share with parents/guardians about their reflections on the school year so far and their goals for the final trimester. Remember that Thursday is a half day and there will be no school on Friday to accommodate conferences. Additionally this week, we will be working on:

Writing: Finishing up our literary essays.  We will be moving on to compare/contrast format essays.

Reading: Continuing novel study groups.  This week, we will focus on finding literary devices like personification, symbolism, foreshadowing, allusions, and analogies.  The students made bookmarks to help them remember to keep an eye out for literary devices while they’re reading.

Spelling/Grammar – We’ll be learning about common prefixes and suffixes this week, and talking about how to break up long/difficult words to help understand them.

Science: We’re in the middle of a short graphing unit.  We’ll be learning about statistics and finding the mean, median, mode, and range of data.

Social Studies:  We’ll be learning about the first British Colonies in North America.

Math: Metric and Customary systems of measurement this week.
