Week of 3/20-3/24

Welcome back from Spring Break!  Here’s what we’re up to:

Writing: We’re prepping our LAD Fair submissions!  Everything will be sent off on Thursday!

Reading: Students are over half-way through their novels and starting to think deeply about how the main conflicts in the novel are getting resolved and analyzing the themes of the stories.

Spelling/Grammar: We are working with words this week.  We will play with analogies and word patterns to compare and analyze word meanings.  We will also continue discussing strategies for discerning the meaning of unfamiliar words.

Science: We are wrapping up working with graphs and charts and moving on to our third trimester unit on classification of life!  We will start this unit by discussing what all life forms have in common. Afterwards, we will play a game where the students organize animals by their similarities and differences.

Social Studies: Students will be designing a group project for creating an informational wall that will compare and contrast the 3 regions of British colonies in North America.  They will be considering what kinds of informational diagrams and charts will be most helpful for organizing and displaying research they will gather on these colonies.

Math: We will review adding and subtracting fractions and mixed numbers.  Afterwards, we will move on to graphing fractions and mixed numbers on line plots. Lastly this week, we will work with scaling numbers.  There will be a math check on this unit next Friday, March 31.
