Where Fractions, Probability, and Line Plots Meet

Today in math class, the students used a spinner (and their adding fractions skills) to create a random data set.  Then, they plotted these mixed numbers onto a Line Plot (a chart made with a number line).  In small groups, they analyzed the data set (finding the range and describing the layout of the data).  As a group, we discussed probability and analyzed why certain mixed numbers appeared as data more frequently than others.  It was a academically sophisticated activity that really showed how much the students have learned this year!
