Week of 3/27-3/31

It’s the last week of March! Can you believe it?!  Here’s what we’re up to:

Writing: Fiction!  We are studying the components of short fiction pieces so students can begin crafting their own.  Much like nonfiction, we will talk about methods of crafting effective beginnings, development, and endings.

Reading: Still working on those reading groups – last 2 weeks!

Spelling/Grammar – It’s a spelling week.

Science: We are learning about the classification system of life this week.  We are also starting a mini-project on cells – crafting a poster to compare and contrast animal and plant cells.

Social Studies: We are diving into the project that the 5th graders began brainstorming last week.  They are designing a “museum wall” that will give information about the 13 British colonies in North America.  As a full-group project, one of the major things students will be working on is how to collaborate on different pieces and divide up tasks.

Math – We are learning about scaling numbers this week – what happens when you multiply a whole number by a fraction?  By a mixed number?  This concept will complete our current unit.  The check for this unit will take place on Friday.

The Summit Preparatory School is a fully accredited, non-religious, private school offering a full-time seated independent education for students in Springfield, Ozark, Nixa, Rogersville, and the greater Southwest Missouri area. Our preparatory school setting offers an enriching early childhood, elementary, middle school, and high school curriculum in a supportive environment. We have state of the art facilities, highly-qualified teachers and staff, and a large range of educational programming. Interested in enrolling your child? Learn more about our admissions process.
