It’s an exciting week! We have Day of Play on Wednesday and celebrating the 100th day of school on Thursday (even though Wednesday is actually the 100th day). Here’s what we’re up to:
Writing: We are having our last few poetry lessons. Students will learn about similes, metaphors, onomatopoeia, Cinquains, and Diamantes. Later in the week, we will honor Black History Month by learning about and reading poetry by Maya Angelou, Langston Hughes, and Amanda Gorman.
Reading: Students are starting our second reading group books: Wrinkle in Time, Flora and Ulysses, Unplugged, and Phantom Tollbooth. Focus for this unit will be on analysis of the text. Skills we will be working on during group discussions will be listening, responding, questioning, respectfully disagreeing, and building-off-others’ thoughts and interpretations.
Spelling/Grammar: It is a spelling week!
Science; Students are beginning work on their end-of-second-trimester projects. This week, students are researching a topic related to electricity or magnetism that interests them.
Social Studies: We are charting European explorers on maps and timelines.
Math: We are wrapping up our unit on decimals by learning about division of decimal numbers. The check on this unit will be next week after a few days of review.
