It’s a big week this week in the fifth grade! We had our 2nd trimester celebration today and the students hit it out of the park! They did a phenomenal job with the fashion show, poetry slam, and showing off their science projects! Well done, fifth graders!
Here’s what we will be doing for the rest of the week:
Writing: We’re wrapping up our poetry unit and turning our attention to writing about literature. Students will be working on a literary essay for the next few weeks.
Reading: Continuing on with novel groups.
Spelling/Grammar: We’re investigating a few topics pertaining to vocabulary this week. We will be practicing using context clues to help understand unknown words, deciphering shades of meaning between similar words, and putting words into categories by their similarities.
Science: We are turning our attention to collecting and graphing data this week. We will learn about frequency charts and finding the mean, median, mode, and range of data sets.
Social Studies: Students will be designing their own sovereign states and continuing to learn about European explorers.
Math: We will review the math check from last week and begin the next unit with multiplying and dividing by powers of 10.
