High school students completed an assessment this week, putting their historical learning to work in the form of essays that asked them to weave together, assess critically, and demonstrate change over time. They’ve really shown a great deal of growth in this area throughout the school year. They used Wednesday’s class to jump in to their final research project, which will allow them to examine key moments over the past few centuries.
High school students have also been finishing up their historical fiction assignment. This project has them reading a book (set outside of the United States) of their choosing and writing an essay fleshing out the historical significance and relevance of their chosen text. It’s always fun to see what they choose, as there’s such a wide variety of interests across the grade levels, as well as the ways they connect the book to their learning. These essays are due following Home Stretch Holiday.
In Philosophy, students have spent the past few weeks discussing utilitarianism, libertarianism, and Kantian philosophy. These ideas have build on each other nicely, demonstrating the importance of critical, logical thinking as we learn and study philosophy. This crew is always ready for a good discussion, and it’s fabulous to see them practice this key skill!
