Welcome back parents and guardians! This year STEM classes are split up between three teachers, we’ll be posting all of our updates to the blog at the same time. Each teacher will have their name above the subjects they teach to hopefully make for a stream lined view experience. Lets have a great school year!

Mr. Long

Algebra 1: We are beginning our Algebra class by discussing rearrangement of equations paired with direct and indirect variation equations. Students have been working through multiple problems each day, as well as partnering and creating their own equations for each other to solve.

Chemistry: We began with a pretest that covered a wide range of topics, including structure of atoms, nomenclature, and phases of matter. We have begun our first unit, matter, by discussing what gives the types of matter their properties and are now moving into atomic structure. 

Genetics: We began with a pretest that covered cell properties, inheritance, and base pairs. After a brief refresh on how cells operate and their structure, we’re going to go deeper into the cell cycle. 

Mr. Spurlin

Geometry:  We started with the beginning definitions of points, lines, and planes.   The students made their own quiz and, in 5 different groups, moved around model boxes for each group and answered questions made by the students.  We will move into the algebra part of geometry by answering the questions using the distance and midpoint formula and solving problems using the segment addition postulate and angle addition postulate.
