While pollution problems are affecting natural resources here on Earth, we are also polluting the skies.  In fact, objects that are sent up into space don’t always come back down.  They can stay in the Earth’s orbit and can cause a problem in the space environment.  4th graders will use the Engineering Design Process to explore what space junk is, why it is a problem, and the effects and solutions.  With this information, students will create a short video about this topic to bring awareness, find current solutions and brainstorm their own.

At the conclusion of this project, 4th graders should emerge not only as budding scientists but also as storytellers, communicators, and advocates for positive change. The experience of creating a video about space junk should instill in them a sense of responsibility and empowerment, proving that even the youngest voices can contribute meaningfully to addressing complex issues that impact our world.
