This week, our 4th graders put their STEM skills to the test with the Jelly Bean Water Bottle Flip Challenge! With a mix of excitement and curiosity, students explored physics principles like gravity, momentum, and balance—all while flipping bottles filled with different amounts of jelly beans.
As they experimented, students quickly realized how the weight and distribution of the jelly beans affected their flips. Some bottles landed perfectly, while others toppled over, leading to plenty of giggles and problem-solving discussions. Through trial and error, they adjusted their techniques and shared strategies to improve their success rate. Students realized that the bottle that was filled one-third of the way with jelly beans landed vertically the most amount of times.
Beyond the fun, this activity reinforced critical thinking, collaboration, and hands-on learning—proving that science can be just as sweet as jelly beans!
