This week in Fourth Grade: 9/29-10/3

In Math, we continued practicing and reviewing multiples and factors. Students also took their end-of-unit test to show what they’ve learned. This week we launched our new unit on multi-digit multiplication, where students are learning different strategies to solve multiplication problems, including repeated addition, area models, and the standard algorithm.

In Spelling, students practiced their spelling words throughout the week. We are taking our spelling test today, and graded tests will be sent home next week.

In Social Studies/Science, we wrapped up our unit on U.S. regions. Students completed their posters and, if they had time, created parade floats showcasing the unique features of their region. We presented these to the class—see photos below for the finished products. We also kicked off our new Oceanography unit, where we’ll begin learning about the different ocean zones, animals, and ecosystems found in the sea.

In Writing, students finished the rough drafts of their ocean animal informative essays and have begun the revising process.

In Reading, we continued working through The Westing Game. So far, we have read 16 chapters and are diving into the twists and turns of the mystery, while looking closely at the motives and connections of each of the heirs.
