Another year, another round of fantastic LA students. While our week was short, we still managed to fill it with some fun and some creative writing! Students in all middle school years participated in what is called “Snowball Stories.” It’s a crowd pleasing activity that wakes up the creative juices and helps get rid of any lingering summer fog.

Students are given a sheet of paper and then are told to write one paragraph of the story. The papers are then crumpled into a ball and thrown into a bin. They are redistributed and the next student continues and/or finishes the story. This is a fun activity that reviews the basic functions of story creation in a fun, and often hilarious, way. The students really enjoyed taking what their classmates had written and taking a hard turn away from the original tone which often made for extremely funny and wacky short stories. We’ll continue with reading the ones we didn’t get to last week.
