A Warning About Murderous Technology in ELA

We read our final short story this week! We discussed the role of technology in our lives, the lives of children, and the lives of parents as well as the figurative language Bradbury used in “The Veldt.”

To engage with your student, you could ask them:

  • the major plot points from the story (key to summarizing!),
  • who/what they believe should be accountable for the entitlement/neglect of the children and outcome for the parents in the story,
  • For 10th-12th grade, you can also ask how the story is alike/different from Fahrenheit 451 (Ray Bradbury wrote both that book and this week’s short story), and
  • what their favorite/least favorite short story has been and why.

Soon, we will be demonstrating our interactions with and knowledge of the various stories through a variety of projects.

For fun, ask your student about the blue duck in our classroom!
