If They All Do It, It Must Be Right

We ended the fall semester with a paper that analyzed ethos and pathos within a piece of propaganda. Thus, we begin spring with an examination of logos. In pairs, students explored, explained, and applied a logical fallacy. With so many to choose from, we will continue exploring fallacies throughout the semester. The conversation of what is right and what is true has led us to our first reading of the semester: “The Allegory of the Cave” by Plato, which we will discuss next week.

Students will be working independently on two book reports this semester.

To engage with your student, you could ask them:

  • which fallacy their presentation featured;
  • which real-world example they chose to exemplify their fallacy;
  • what book they are reading for their first book report; and
  • if they intend to enter any of their work from last semester – or different work – into LAD Fair.
