The Escape Room

Alexis is a freshman at The Summit Prep taking the Journalism Activities Class as one of her electives for 2018-2019. This semester the Journalism Activities class is focusing on social media, blogging, and vlogging.

On Tuesday, November 7, The Summit High School went on a field trip to the Springfield Escape Room. The goals of this excursion were to create a bonding experience while also learning crucial team building skills, to test our ability to work under pressure, and to practice perseverance. On this field trip, we were divided into three groups and placed in different themed escape rooms. The three we were given were: Judgement Day, The Cure, and Musician. These can all be connected to current school lessons:

Judgement Day: Within history, we have been studying the US constitution and the inner works of our government.

The Cure: In Biology, we just wrapped up presenting on different diseases and if they have a cure or not.

And lastly, Musician: can be connected to all the wonderful musicians we have in the school.

When in the escape room, we were given one hour to solve the clues. There were many clues found at once and resulted in the groups splitting up to solve different clues. This was a very amazing dynamic to see considering the clues intertwined and fit together like a puzzle. So even though not everyone was focusing on the same clue, there was still amazing communication amongst everyone. This was such an enjoyable feature considering how connected it made everyone feel and the energy people shared.

Once back from the trip, we reflected on the experience in Personal Health Class. Overall, the experience was very positive and enlightening. All groups reported that everyone worked together brilliantly and persevered. Every team escaped the room in the given hour time frame, and one group was even put in a room with only an 11% success rate!
