The First Friday of Spring
Written by the Journalism Activities Class
The third day of spring started with sunshine and an in-class project to write a group blog post for the High School Journalism Activities Class. The students decided a walking field trip to Starbucks on South Campbell Ave, just a couple blocks from The Summit Prep, was the perfect focus for their project.
“Going on a morning walk on a spring morning gets our brains working for the rest of our productive day,” said Jenna, Summit freshman.
The group made the short walk together, with freshman Zion snapping photos along their adventure (see images on this post for a visual story of their morning).
“Being able to go to Starbucks by walking from school is so convenient,” said Matthew, Summit sophomore. “And The Summit Prep is cool for letting us.”
Everyone enjoyed the opportunity to get out of the classroom this morning.
“What a great way to get back into the rhythm of school,” said sophomore Alexis. “I can’t wait to finish out the year strong.” Calla, Summit freshman remarked, “Our excursion was a wonderful beginning to my fourth quarter!”
The group was positive and respectful during their walk. They even let a lady at Starbucks jump ahead of them in line to order her drink. The women remarked what a kind and polite group the high schoolers were, asking what brought them all to the coffee shop.
“The woman at Starbucks really seemed impressed by our group. She made sure to tell me what great manners and attitudes they had,” said Ms. Amy Maas, Journalism instructor. “She was thrilled to hear they were students at The Summit Prep, just around the corner, out enjoying a beautiful spring day.”
High schoolers are wrapping up their first week back from spring break. This afternoon they will head out to the Watershed Center for the second annual all school service day, Ravens Reach Out Day. The entire Upper School will spend the afternoon creating and building split rail fence to protect sensitive areas and invasive species removal (honeysuckle and winter creeper most likely) at the Watershed.
Cooper, Summit sophomore, is looking forward to his second all school service day. “I am very excited to help my community through manual labor,” he said with a sly grin.
