Presentations and Celebrations

Sixth grade students have done a fabulous job conducting historical research over recent classes, and they began presentations this week. These historians are taking the task seriously, and the presentations thus far have been quite thorough. I’ve been especially impressed by classmates’ questions throughout presentations, which are displaying fantastic skills of critical thinking.

Sixth grade also took the time yesterday to celebrate Constitution Day. We celebrated with a small tea party and some snacks, and then we discussed the history of U.S. government, including the Articles of Confederation. We then watched a classic video of the preamble and talked about the different articles included in the Constitution. Once again, students were impressive in their ability to recall things they learned last year and apply them to current discussions. They’re doing a wonderful job making connections between historical moments.

Seventh grade had a solo day in history class, as eighth grade students were off campus for a field trip. Today, we focused on Hispanic Heritage Month, playing a Kahoot! to enhance our learning. We then talked about the Hispanic Civil Rights Movement and discussed the efforts across the country to expand rights to all US citizens.

Students across the board seem to be looking forward to having Friday off, and we’re all excited to see the fun outfit choices for tomorrow’s $2 uniform buyout day. Remember to dress in red, white, and green to celebrate Mexican Independence Day!

Because they’re awesome leaders, working hard in classes, and applying to colleges, here is a photo of our seniors on this Wednesday afternoon.
