Computer Science Principles
This week in CSP, students have learned about how computers compress text to send large amounts of information faster and with fewer bits. They then had the opportunity to practice compressing text themselves which proved to be more challenging than they imagined! To wrap up the week, students engaged in encoding digital images using binary and metadata to represent pixels.
As our unit on digital information comes to a close early next week, the month of October will be dedicated entirely to programming. We have been eagerly awaiting this time to come! Students will need to download “Grasshopper: The Coding App for Beginners” onto their devices which will be used both as a learning tool as well as an interactive game students can play at home.
Algebra 2
This week in Algebra 2, students have extended solving systems of two equations to both writing and solving systems of three equations. Each problem we’ve worked on in class has pushed students to the very edge of their understanding, which has made for some exciting moments of brain growth! With the assessment over Systems on Monday, students have been reviewing exactly what they are expected to know and be able to do. Happy studying!
7/8 Integrated Math
This week in Integrated Math, students investigated what happens to surface area and volume when three dimensional figures are scaled. After two weeks of full immersion into scale, scale drawings, and scaling figures, students will demonstrate what they’ve learned on the assessment on Monday. The rest of the week will be spent visualizing and exploring proportional relationships.
