Middle Schoolers Thinking like Galileo

In middle school math and science, students have taken a trip back in time to the 1600’s! After enjoying modern-day tools, such as clocks and meter sticks, for their pendulum experiments, students were challenged to investigate the relationship between distance traveled and time of a uniformly-accelerating object without standard units of measurement. Thus, they had to get in creative in how to slow down the motion of a falling object, keep track of time, and measure distances in order to answer the same experimental question that Galileo pondered centuries ago. After several weeks of study, students will be wrapping up their study of motion this Wednesday by summarizing their results and reflecting on what they’ve learned.
