Science Update

Middle School Ecology:
Students have wrapped up a research project that culminated in a presentation highlighting information about a species they found on the grounds of the school, or in the case of hybrid learners, their own backyard. Students looked at the ecological relationships their species has, as well as whether their species is native, non-native, or invasive. Students are now looking into how to read scientific journal papers and how to interpret the oftentimes difficult to understand concepts that they cover.

High School Chemistry:
Ionic and covalent compounds are being studied intently. Students have learned how to derive the formula of a compound from its name or to write its name based on its formula. Students will begin the fun of identifying types of chemical reactions, predicting products of reactions, and balancing chemical equations in the coming weeks.
