Presentation Week in LA

Last week, the 6th graders began exploring concepts of Utopia by designing an advertisement for their very own “perfect” society.  They each presented their pamphlet and fielded questions from classmates about what their society would look like.  Between all the presentations, the students hit on everything necessary to build a society.  This discussion turned around on Friday when they pivoted from concepts of Utopia to concepts of Dystopia as they further prepare to begin “The Giver” which they will begin tomorrow. They took a survey on Nearpod designed to gauge their thoughts on themes that will be present in the book.  They had to agree, disagree, or strongly agree, or strongly disagree on all kinds of questions like “Society would be better off if love and romance were not important” and “I would be happier if I never had to make choice” among others.  The discussion this poll fueled was wonderful and I’m looking forward to continuing it today.

7th and 8th grade finished their presentations on their selected Olympian god/goddess.  They brought some really insightful information to the class and presented in a professional manner.  the information they learned and presented will be vital as we continue our unit on Greek Mythology.  Today they will be further exploring the origins of the Olympian gods, the creation myth according to the Ancient Greeks, and the king of the gods, Zeus himself.

High School continues to delve into the world of Gothic London with “Dracula.” They are really enjoying this classic tale of the dark and supernatural.

All in all, a very productive week in language arts!
