Sixth Grade:
Sixth grade students have been continuing their learning of people, groups, and events in the ancient world, including Alexander the Great, the Mauryan Dynasty, and the Silk Roads. Since their assessment, they have been taking a few days each week to focus on research and create presentations on the Han Dynasty in China. Students were given the choice to work in small groups or to do the project on their own, and they were allowed to choose from a list of topics within the Han Dynasty. They have done some impressive research, and I’m looking forward to their presentation of learning!
Seventh/Eighth Grade:
Seventh and eighth grade students have been learning about the Roman Empire and the Han Dynasty. We’re taking a contrasting approach to these two vital empires and examining how they’re alike and different. Students completed their research and presentation projects over topics within the Roman Empire before learning about the Han Dynasty, and they are now working to complete research papers on a topic that compares the two. As a class, we’ve also done some reading and study regarding the Terra Cotta warriors of the Qin Dynasty and Hannibal’s elephant army and the Punic Wars.
High School:
High school students are examining several Islamic empires, including the Ottoman, Safavid, and Mughal as part of their study this month. Upon the conclusion of this series of lessons, they will take their second assessment to showcase their knowledge over the past few months. From here, we’ll study the Enlightenment and the era of revolutions.
