High School
High school students completed their second assessment on Friday, practicing their skills of recall, writing, and making connections. This week, we will begin our study of the European Enlightenment and the many ways that it changed the world. As part of this unit, we’ll read and discuss sources from Rousseau, Lady Mary Wortley Mantagu, James Lind, and Immanuel Kant.
Seventh/Eighth Grade
Students in seventh and eighth grade are wrapping up their formal research papers comparing and contrasting the Han Dynasty and Roman Empire. Through this process, they have learned to take diligent notes on the information discovered through sources and to weave that information into an argumentative essay. They have practiced skills of Chicago citations and mastered the art of the footnote. They should be really proud of their efforts and final products! We will continue with our study of Rome this week and weave in some fun games to recall our semester of learning.
Sixth Grade
Sixth grade students finished their presentations on the Han Dynasty yesterday. They did a fabulous job of researching, collecting, and organizing information to share with their peers, and they have laid an excellent foundation for our study of the Qin and Han dynasties to continue throughout this week and when we return in January.
Current Events
Students in Current Events are finishing the year with presentations on the top 10 news events of 2020 – which is quite the task! They were asked to sort events chronologically or by importance, and we’re looking forward to Monday to see their final products.
Culinary Arts
Students in Culinary Arts have just one more cooking presentation on Monday of next week. In this unit, students have made cookies, blueberry cobbler, green bean casserole, and French toast. Next week, we’ll have presentations on bacon and eggs and rice krispy treats – sure to be enjoyed by all.
