Upper school students and teachers were happy to be back in the building for classes yesterday. It was wonderful to see everyone in person again!
In social studies, middle school classes spent time reviewing concepts learned over the past few weeks to ensure a strong foundation for moving forward. Sixth grade students are anticipating a geography assessment next week, and seventh and eighth grade students will be preparing for an assessment of the recent empires we’ve studied.
High school students completed their argumentative research papers examining a political or social movement that took place in one of the last two centuries. As we move forward through the class, these projects will provide students a helpful connection and comparison point to the topics we cover. Recently, they have examined colonialism in Africa and Asia, and they are now looking to regions where empires collide within the 19th century. Students are keenly aware that each of these events provides another piece to the puzzle in understanding major conflicts of the 20th century, including the Great War and World War Two.
Students in the culinary arts elective were happy to be back in the kitchen at school yesterday. Jonas tackled shells, filled with yummy cheese and covered in marinara sauce. This recipe was great because the whole class was able to jump in and help in the process.
