Math with Mrs. Cook

6th Grade Math

In 6th grade math, students have completed their study of ratios and unit rates. They also studied percentages by studying Mondrian paintings and calculating percentages of certain colors. Then they created their own artwork, calculating the percentages of colors they used. Exploring proportions and data was the next topic studied. Students evaluated data and calculated proportions based on animals’ height, weight, tongue length, heart rate and others. They then spent time crafting a data chart, ensuring that their data showing proportions was accurately reflected in the chart.

Algebra 1

Algebra 1 students moved from solving systems of equations into quadratic functions. They analyzed graphs, equations, and tables discovering common characteristics of quadratics. Then they learned how to factor quadratic equations to find zeros, as well as, complete the square to find the vertex. The students will be moving into using the quadratic formula and using all this information to graph and solve quadratic equations.

PreCalculus

The Precalculus/Trigonometry class has completed their study of trigonometric identities and equations.  They are going to move into ensuring mastery of previously studied material and applying it in various scenarios.
