Math with Mrs. Cook

6th grade students have continued to analyze data by learning about measures of center and spread. They physically manipulated the data using cubes and then worked to create their own data sets with specific relationships, such as median >mean>mode or mode>median>mean and so forth. This week students are presenting on different types of data displays. Each student chose a different display and are determining which is best for which type of data.

Algebra 1 students are continuing their study of quadratic equations. They are improving in their ability to use equations to know what the graph will look like. Analysis of intercepts, opening up or down, and finding the vertex are all valuable pieces of information in this pursuit. Converting from factored form, standard form, and vertex form also provide us with these pieces of information and is a skill we are practicing. This week we are attempting to find specific shortcuts for certain types of quadrilateral equations as well as trying to find a parabola in real life to analyze for a project next week.

Precalculus students are pursuing a variety of different topics in search of mastery, including functions, polynomial graphing, solving trig functions, proving equations using basic trig identities, polar coordinates and equations, and vectors.
