Welcome Back!
What a fantastic first week back! Students are getting to know each other, they’re engaged in class materials, and they are asking great questions and thinking deeply.
Sixth Grade
Students in sixth grade are making quick work of adjusting to the middle school environment. In history class, we have discussed necessary skills for success throughout the year. Among the wonderful list students created was the skill of observation, which we practiced during our long block on Wednesday morning. Students had the chance to quietly observe their upper school teachers’ classrooms to see what information they might discover. Students are also beginning their study of history with a recap of major events, people, and places in the 15th century. I’m so excited for all we’ll discover together this year!
Seventh & Eighth Grade
Students in these classes have quickly adjusted to their class groupings and are learning how to interact with a different set of people from last year and from other classes throughout the day. These groups have more quickly stepped back into the 15th century and are spending time this week reading a letter from Christopher Columbus to the treasurer of Spain. We are discussing bias, intent, perspective, audience, and more as we seek to learn more about the person and character of Columbus.
Political Science
Students in this class have done an admirable job of jumping straight into the subject matter, discussing current events, separation of powers, comparative governments, and the roles of our elected officials. They spent some time yesterday on a pre-test, and afterward, they collaborated with their peers to continue their learning. We’re all looking forward to this discussion and problems-based course!
