Upper School Music Highlights, October 4-8

We have switched gears in Upper School music class, and we are now starting our World Music unit this week. Each lesson will consist of a listening and academic day where we learn about the styles of the region as well as common instruments or musical techniques. We will follow this up with a performance day, where we use the instruments we have around the music room to perform the styles we have learned about in the previous lesson.

We began this unit with the music of Latin America, where we learned about the dance styles of South and Central America. These included a multitude of instruments such as the Timbales, Maracas, Tambora, Ocarina, Charango, and many more!

Students performed in small groups and as a large class ensemble with rhythm sheets from Samba, Salsa, and Merengue styles. This went very well with all classes and it really seemed like students had a lot of fun with the performances!
