Upper School Music Highlights, November 1-5

6th Grade has begun working on their Introduction to Music Theory unit. In this unit we are walking through the basics of music theory and using worksheets and Theta Music Trainer to work through these skills. We will be learning about scales, chord and chord progressions, and note intervals throughout the next week or more!

7th/8th Grade has been working on our World Music unit. This week, we discussed the music of Southeast Asia and this included the traditional music of China, Japan, Korea, and Thailand. We mainly discuss and listen to the traditional instruments during these lessons, but other topics include the purpose of music in their culture and society as well as other factors that may have influenced their music throughout their nation’s history. All topics and Google Slides can be found on our Google Classroom page.

Throughout each of these longer units, we will always try to take a break for one or two class periods and practice some music skills. Last week we practiced our recorder skills by completing levels 1 and 2 of recorder karate and even composed our own melodies for recorder!
