Upper School Music Highlights, 11/29-12/3

Upper School Music has been a wonderful success throughout this semester, and we are preparing for a strong close to our work as Winter Break approaches. Both 6th grade and 7/8 grade groups have worked through a mix of academic music lessons and more hands on music skills activities.

7/8 grade have finished our World Music unit and are now working on some hands on activities. Each student created their own drum out of cups, balloons, rubber bands, and other crafting materials. The goal was to recreate a Djembe, and we are happy with our finished products! Students can bring their drums home or use them in music class throughout the rest of our Music Skills lessons. 7/8 grade will now finish the semester by choosing a country from around the world and researching that music culture and creating a presentation for the class.

This week in 6th grade music, we are working on Music Skills with handbells. Students will be asked to pair up in groups of 2-4 people and perform written selections, write or arrange their own songs, and improvise using the handbells.
