This week in Language Arts!

6th grade is wrapping up their work on a poem about their individual identities this week by  Workshopping their rough drafts and making revisions based on the feedback they receive. They’ve been challenged to make a poem about themselves, but without using pronouns to reference themselves. This will make the poem a little more abstract and, hopefully, help students to move into a more advanced form of poetry. The best selections will be compiled and turned into LAD Fair as a poetry compendium.

7th and 8th grade is finishing up their reading of “Fahrenheit 451” through group dscussion of the final part. They’ve proven themselves to be skilled at literary anlysis and are coming up with brilliant ideas in class! Their final group project will be assigned at the beginning fo the week and will be due the week following President’s Day.

High School has moved on  past “The Great Gatsby” and into “Passing,” a novel selected to give them a different perspective from the one presented in “Gatsby.” It is my hope that they will expand their understanding of multicultural voices, and especially women of color.
