Middle School STEM

With the arrival of beautiful weather, the MS STEM class participated in a water carrying challenge. In teams of two, students designed a water carrying vessel after purchasing materials with “bitcoin.” Each group had 20 coins with which they could purchase pieces of paper, crayons, and foot-long strips of duct tape and masking tape. After about 20 minutes of design and build time, students created group of six and tested their design by scooping water out of a tray, carrying it down the track, and dumping it into a bowl. The water carrying vessels performed with varying levels of success with some disintegrating after the first transfer and others lasting beyond the two required transfers. The winning group was able to transfer a total of 500 mL of water!
