Kandice is an experienced English teacher with over a decade of college-level teaching in writing and literature. She earned both her bachelor’s degree in print journalism and her master’s degree in rhetoric and composition from Missouri State University. Most recently, she taught Composition courses as an associate professor at Northwest Florida State College in Niceville, Fla. before returning back to the Ozarks and joining The Summit Preparatory team.

Prior to working in academia, she was a copy editor at The St. Joseph News-Press and later Springfield News-Leader. She then joined the marketing communications field and used those skills as an entrepreneur, creating both a magazine and roofing business. Now, she focuses on helping her students hone their critical thinking, reading, and writing skills. Her teaching is shaped by a genuine enthusiasm for learning and connection and grounded in a passion for language, storytelling, and empowering students to find their voice in writing.

A devoted bibliophile and lifelong learner, Kandice surrounds herself with writing and greenery—books and plants occupy nearly every flat surface in her home. When she’s not in the classroom, she enjoys pondering language and culture, ranking her favorite punctuation marks (her fave is an interrobang), decorating her home with plants and gnomes, visiting the beach, cheering on her children at practices and competitions, and spending time with her family and spirited French bulldog.
