Social Studies Update

High school students are in full research mode in the history classroom right now. Primary sources and JSTOR articles abound! Having chosen topics of personal interest and larger significance, students are discovering the rich detail and importance of the Great War in shaping our modern era. Their topics include the following:

  5. Women on the homefront 
  6. Journalism 
  7. Animals 
  8. Airplanes 
  9. Propaganda 
  10. Great Migration & African Americans on the Homefront 
  11. German-Americans on the homefront
  12. Russia 
  13. Japan 
  14. Submarine warfare in the Atlantic
  15. Technology 
  16. Creating the American war machine
  17. Battle of Gallipoli 
  18. Schlieffen Plan 

These projects will culminate in engaging presentations, beginning next Monday. Students are working to craft essential questions and thesis statements to guide their peers’ learning as they present.
