High School Mathematics

Algebra 2

Algebra 2 students have continued working with radical equations. They have applied their knowledge to solving quadratic equations, discovering where, in previous classes the only option was no real numbers, they can use imaginary numbers now to determine a solution. Additionally they have been working with simplifying radical expressions using exponent rules and perfect squares. It has taken a great deal of concentration and effort in order to properly solve these types of problems with no errors. Students are also seeing the benefits of their learning in previous math classes pay off as they are combining knowledge of fraction operations, multiplication facts, finding factors of numbers, and isolating variables sometimes all in one problem in order to calculate the final answer in simplest form.

Applied Math

Applied math is focused these weeks on saving and systems of equations. Finding intersection points of equations is a way to determine the point at which situations have the same value in order to decide which is the best choice to make related to saving goals.
