Camp Raven – Summer 2023

Hey Summit families! 

This summer, middle and high school students are invited to enrich their summer with a series lineup to meet a variety of interests. Sessions are 1, 2, or 3 days in length from 12-3 pm. Dates vary according to session. Check it out today!

Sr. Camp Raven (students entering 6th grade and up in the Fall of 2023)

  • June 7-9 from 12:00-3:00 pm, 3D Design with Mr. Powers: Explore the world of 3D design and printing first-hand!  Join Mr. Powers to see the process. Students will have the chance to experiment with design software and by the end of camp will have a design ready for printing! 

  • June 13-15 from 12:00-3:00 pm, Disc Golf with Dr. Jones: Come and spend the afternoon in nature with Dr. Jones.  We will head out and get some exercise while playing disc golf.  We will find out the different discs that can be used and why you might want to use different discs for different throws. You are welcome to bring your own discs. We will meet at The Summit on day one and then on days two and three, we will meet at local Springfield Parks courses to have some fun. 

  • June 23 from 12:00-3:00 pm, Tie-Dye with Mrs. Bradley: Wear some stainable clothes and bring white shirts, towels, socks, etc! Join Mrs. Bradley for a tie-dying workshop as we experiment to make the perfect tie dye masterpiece from start to finish.

  • June 26-27 from 12:00-3:00 pm, Watercolor Techniques with Mrs. Bradley: Mrs. Bradley is excited to share watercolor techniques with any interested artists or art dabblers. No prior experience necessary!

  • July 12-14 from 12:00-3:00 pm, Sewing with Mrs. Taylor: Join Mrs. Taylor for three days full of exciting sewing projects and techniques. Day one will focus on hand-sewing as students make adorable owls. Day two will provide students the opportunity to imagine and draw their own appliqué pattern and then sew it to a t-shirt or sweatshirt.They will do raw-edge appliqué and have the opportunity to use machine and/or hand-stitching. They will learn about various appliqué techniques and applications, including needle-turn appliqué. Day three will focus on sustainable sewing. Students will make their own upcycled, decorative pillow cover using thrifted materials. They will learn how to source materials, measure and fit an existing pillow form, how to make a pillow form from scratch, and how to design a removable pillow cover. 

  • July 17-19 from 12:00-3:00 pm, Fiber Arts with Ms. Renfroe: Explore the world of fiber arts with Ms. Renfroe. In this camp session, we will discover how to make our own paper, experiment with natural dyes, and build our own books through various book-binding techniques. 

  • July 24-26 from 12:00-3:00 pm, Stop Motion Animation with Ms. Renfroe: Have you ever wondered how animation works? We will dive into the process of stop-motion animation to create our own movies! Join Ms. Renfroe to design characters, storylines, and sets to build your own movie magic.
