Math Fundamentals – Sixth grade students have begun learning more about collecting and analyzing data. Dot plots and histograms are the first displays being studied. We will use these displays, as well as others, to discuss the center and spread of data sets.
Integrated Math – Integrated Math students have discovered the formulas for volume of prisms, cylinders, pyramids, and cones based on the relationship between these solid figures. They are practicing applying these formulas to find volume as well as missing dimensions if they know the volume. They will also work on the surface area of these solid figures in upcoming class periods. There will be a Check for Understanding over this knowledge next week.
Algebra 1 – Algebra 1 students have been working on their fluency in transforming quadratic equations to and from standard, factored, and vertex form. Each of these forms provide valuable information about the graph of the quadratic equation. Students are doing a Check for Understanding over this skill and will then use this skill in the upcoming weeks to solve quadratic equations.
Geometry – This week students focused on writing and proving conjectures about slopes of parallel and perpendicular lines, applying concepts of transformations in the proofs. They applied these ideas to other proofs, such as classifying quadrilaterals.
