6th grade finished up their presentations of their final projects for “Anne Frank: Diary of a Young Girl.” They had several options from the creation of a diorama to imagining what her life may have been like had she survived the horrific events with which the Frank family attempted to survive, among others. They demonstrated imagination and strong content knowledge in their presentations. Once completed, we moved on to our last unit for the year which will be about research writing and MLA formatting. We had discussions about how to find one’s passion and they will use this discussion to select an appropriate topic for their research. They will be responsible for about 1/2 of a page with sources, citations, correct formatting, etc. We will go through the process of selecting academically viable sources and how to implement them into one’s writing. Drafting, workshop, and revision will all be utilized during this unit.
7th and 8th grade have been hard at work on their final projects for “Little Women.” They had a choice between individual or group work and could either choose a play in the same fashion as the March sisters might have performed to entertain themselves with fantastical scenarios and wild tropes or a newspaper in the same style as the paper created by the March sisters to pass the time. The project is due on Monday and presentations will begin at that time. From what I’ve seen, they will be both informative and entertaining. They’ve worked hard and it shows. Once completed, they will join the other Language Arts classes in learning about MLA and research writing so that we can finish strong with our work on composition.
