Sixth grade students have been invested in a study of the Great War for the last several days. They’ve practiced cryptography using a grid to decode a telegram from 1917, and they’ve written their own messages in code. They have demonstrated strong critical thinking as the class has examined primary sources from the war to enable a stronger understanding. From here, they are learning of the Great Depression and New Deal.
Seventh grade students recently presented on immigration in the late 19th century from a variety of countries. Working in groups or individually, students researched the push and pull factors that influenced the massive immigration to the United States during this era. They did a great job collaborating and presenting to peers. From here, they are studying the Great War and its implications.
Eighth grade students turned in final drafts of research essays or presentations on key events from the 20th century. As part of this project, each student created an annotated bibliography and did in-depth research. They are ready for the rigors of high school research and writing. They are wrapping up the year with an overview of key events from the 20th century that weren’t covered in their classroom presentations.
