Social Studies Update

Students in eighth grade completed their first assessment on Friday afternoon. They used the opportunity to show their knowledge, making arguments about Ancient Mesopotamia that were supported by rich detail. They’re now divided into three groups to research the remaining three early river civilizations: Nile River Valley, Indus River Valley, and the Yellow and Yangtze rivers region of China. They’re collaborating within their group to create a presentation to teach their classmates about their chosen civilization.

Sixth and seventh grade students are taking their first assessment today, and they’re also beginning a research project in small groups. In these early weeks of research, we talk about what a reliable source is, how many sources are needed for credible research in middle school, and how to communicate information to peers in a formal setting, in addition to other things.

Book Club

Our little PowerHour book club took a trip to the Library Center on Friday afternoon. We were able to spend about thirty minutes exploring the stacks and choosing independent reading books. It was a joy to experience the library with these awesome people!
