Middle School Update!

Each week our middle school students embark on a journey that focuses on creating community and supporting conversations. Advisory is a valuable moment in the day when groups of 6-7 or students gather with a faculty member to review the plans for the week (executive functioning), play games, go outside, and work on community-based activities. In the past two weeks, groups created t-shirt designs that were then voted on by the students. The final design was then turned into a t-shirt that students and families can order.

The three principles at the bottom of the shirt were a community focus carried over from last year: Choose kindness, Have a growth mindset, and Be respectful. Throughout the month of September advisory groups will focus on deepening their understanding of these principles within the context of what it means to be a middle schooler at The Summit. While purchasing the shirts is not required, they present a great way to build community and show school spirit.

I have enjoyed getting to know each of our students! These first three weeks have been enlightening and I look forward to learning and growing with our students, staff, and faculty!
