Fall Update!

We’ve just recently finished up our Slide Guitar Unit and everyone has written and performed their own version of the “12 Bar Blues”! The “12 Bar Blues” is a traditional form for blues music consisting of mostly 3 different chords (I, IV, V) and going on for 12 measures before it repeats back to the beginning.

It’s used a lot in classic blues songs and it’s often one of the first things musicians will play together since players can trade off singing/soloing every 12 bars!

We just started a drum unit last week where we watched a variety of styles of drumming and started trying it ourselves!

We’ve learned several “rudiments” and warm-ups including Eighths, Paradiddles, single-stroke rolls and flam taps. And most recently we’ve begun to explore basic drum beats for the drum set with the 2-4 drum beat.
