Upper school Spanish students are concluding their projects for Indigenous Peoples Heritage Month. Each student selected a distinct group of native Central/South American people and delved into their traditional ways of life, the impact of colonization on their communities, and the contemporary challenges these groups encounter. Additionally, students explored the strategies employed by these communities to address these challenges.
During class presentations, students shared their projects, revealing that they discovered shared values with the communities they researched. They highlighted how people of native heritage continue to build thriving communities while preserving their traditional way of life. Simultaneously, these communities navigate the complexities of the modern world, facing societal challenges similar to those encountered by many of us.
In summary, it was inspiring to witness Summit students learn about the immense diversity of people within the Spanish-speaking world, gaining a new perspective on the regions we study in Spanish class.
