Math Fundamentals
Sixth grade mathematicians are starting the new year with Algebra! Expressions and equations are the focus of the first unit in 2024. A summary and explanation of topics can be found here. As we progress through the unit, some students may need additional practice. IXL is a great source of practice with immediate feedback.
Integrated Math
Integrated Math students began the year with logic problems, designed to encourage them to think deeply, apply a variety of problem solving skills, and check their answers for reasonableness. With these skills, students will soon start their first unit involving proportional relationships.
Foundations for Algebra
To start the year, students in Foundations for Algebra are diving into linear relationships and ways to represent them. This will include a study of graphs, tables, and equations. Each part of these representations should relate to one another and the situation being represented. Students needing additional practice might consider working on some topics in IXL. Specific recommendations can be found in Google Classroom. Check in with Ms. E if assistance is needed in locating these resources.
Algebra I
Algebra 1 students began the semester with a variety of problem solving exercises. They showed excellent grit as they tackled these problems. The week ended with looking at how many faces the cubes that make up a 3×3 rubik’s cube would be painted if it was taken apart. Students recognized patterns in order to develop rules for a cube of any size. They will formally begin their exponential functions unit next week.
