It was fantastic to have students back in the building and in our classrooms today! We teachers are excited to see this school year unfold and participate in your student’s learning journey and personal growth. 

In sixth grade social studies, students are spending the year studying ancient world history. Today we talked about the scope of our class and the question of when history begins. Additionally, we had a great discussion about how we know history, especially in its early stages. We’ll begin next week by examining what geographical features are essential to a flourishing civilization. From there, we’ll begin our study of Mesopotamia and the Fertile Crescent. There are some great integration opportunities with other classes this year, and we’re excited to team up for some learning this semester. 

In seventh and eighth grade social studies, students are jumping in to the 15th century’s Age of Exploration. We’ll begin with a study of what changes occurred to allow for ocean exploration and the European discovery of the Americas and eventually Australia. Much like the sixth grade group, this class will have rich opportunities to integrate their learning across content areas.

In archery, students who have taken this elective picked up where they left off. For those new to the practice, we discussed rules, expectations, attendance, and more before testing out the bows and practicing our good aim.
